After over three decades advising on classic Ferrari’s, the current market for the marque’s halo models – the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari – is reaching new heights.

This year’s Rétromobile week Auctions in Paris has produced extraordinary results:

• A 1983 Ferrari 288 GTO smashed the model record at €9,117,500 (Gooding & Christie’s)

• Ultra-low-mileage 2004 Enzo: €8,105,000 (RM Sotheby’s, just 286 km)

• Immaculate 1997 F50: €7,598,750 (RM Sotheby’s, 1,680 km)

• Another strong 288 GTO: €5,855,000 (RM Sotheby’s)

F40s and LaFerraris are also commanding ever-higher premiums as pristine examples become rarer.

Scarcity, impeccable history, and their direct links to Ferrari’s racing soul are fuelling this rise. These remain some of the purest driving machines ever built.

The Jaguar XK120, launched in 1948, was a revelation in post-war automotive design and performance. Originally built to showcase Jaguar’s new XK straight-six engine, it stunned the world with its sleek, aerodynamic body and record-breaking 120 mph top speed - making it the fastest production car of its time. Its 3.4-litre DOHC engine produced around 160 bhp, delivering smooth, powerful acceleration that set new standards for sports cars.

Beyond its beauty and engineering, the XK120 quickly proved its worth on the track. It achieved success in events like the Alpine Rally, Mille Miglia and Le Mans, solidifying Jaguar’s reputation in international motorsport. Celebrities and enthusiasts alike fell in love with its elegance and performance - Clark Gable famously owned one. The XK120 laid the foundation for Jaguar’s future legends, including the XK140, XK150, and the iconic E-Type.

In 1966, Lamborghini - a company founded just thre

In 1966, Lamborghini - a company founded just three years earlier in 1963 by tractor maker Ferruccio Lamborghini - unveiled the Miura, which set the motoring world ablaze 🔥

After a famous dispute with Enzo Ferrari (who suggested he stick to tractors), Ferruccio aimed higher. His engineers Giampaolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani and Bob Wallace worked in secret on a mid-engined prototype in 1965. The bare chassis wowed crowds at Turin, and Bertone’s Marcello Gandini created its stunning body for the 1966 Geneva debut.

Powered by a groundbreaking transverse 3.9L V12 (350hp in P400), integrated with the gearbox in a compact unit behind the seats. This gave perfect 50/50 weight balance and razor handling. Reaching 0-60 mph in 7 seconds, top speed of 171 mph. It was the fastest production car at the time.

The Miura was one of the first mid-engine supercars with a layout used by almost every exotic car since.

Variants:
• P400 (1966–69): Original, 475 built, 350hp
• P400S (1968–71): 370hp, luxuries like power windows, revised suspension
• P400SV (1971–73): 385hp, wider stance, no eyelashes

A total of 764 cars were produced.

Star of 1969’s The Italian Job (Alps chase with multiple Miuras used). Famous owners include Frank Sinatra, The Shah of Iran, Miles Davis, JK and Eddie Van Halen.

2026 sees the Miura celebrate its 60th birthday - a fitting tribute to the car that transformed Lamborghini and birthed the modern supercar era 🎂

Its beauty and innovation still captivate today!

Reunited at Wappenbury Hall in 2021 at the former home of Jaguar’s legendary founder, Sir William Lyons for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of this motoring masterpiece.

These three cars weren’t just any E-Types, they were unveiled to the world in 1961, when Jaguar stunned the automotive press at the Geneva Motor Show with a design so ahead of its time that even Enzo Ferrari called it “the most beautiful car ever made.”

Jaguar test driver Norman Dewis was famously told by Lyons himself to “drop everything” and drive the third E-Type - 77 RW - overnight from Coventry to Geneva. With no sat-nav, no sleep and no margin for error, Dewis made it in time… just hours before the press launch began. His heroic journey became the stuff of Jaguar legend.

Fast forward 60 years, and this unforgettable trio - stood side-by-side once more, back where it all began.

A tribute not only to Jaguar’s legacy, but to the vision, craftsmanship and passion that made the E-Type a global icon.

A moment that bridged six decades of history, reminding us why some cars aren’t just machines—they’re milestones and worth preserving!

At look back when Julia took out the amazing ‘19

At look back when Julia took out the amazing ‘1951 Jaguar XK120 Works Competition Roadster’, LRW747 out for a spin. A very special Jaguar Works Car indeed.

The Car was dispatched from the Factory on the 26th of November 1951. The first owner was none other than, Lt. Col. Ronnie Hoare, Founder of Maranello Concessionaires, the UK’s Ferrari Importer and Racing Team Manager, who was very close friends with Sir William Lyons.

LRW747 passed through a few owners before being acquired by Anthony Hutton in the late 1960s by which time the car had been repainted Black (picture shown). Hutton was the Competition Secretary for the XK Register and soon pressed the XK into action with entries at many of the major competition venues of the period including Silverstone, Thruxton and Prescott.

Hutton was also instrumental in helping to organise the XK Parade ahead of the 1970 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, which commemorated the 21st Anniversary of the XK120’s maiden victory there in 1949. During this parade a number of world class drivers were driven around the track and LRW747 had the honour of hosting the great Australian driver, Jack Brabham.

The Car also made an appearance at the Mille Miglia in 2017 and 2019 and is today in great condition and ready to race!

This iconic black-and-white shot captures pure, unfiltered cool: Steve McQueen tearing through the neon-lit streets of Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood in his legendary 1957 Jaguar XKSS, the one he nicknamed the “Green Rat”.

Leaning into the wheel with that signature focused intensity, wind whipping past, surrounded by blurred streaks of headlights, billboards, and city glow - it’s the essence of 1960s freedom on four wheels.

The slow-shutter motion blur turns the chaos of LA nightlife into cinematic art, while McQueen looks utterly in command, like the road was made just for him.

The Green Rat - one of only 16 XKSS ever built (a street-legal version of the Le Mans-winning D-Type) - was McQueen’s personal beast.

He bought it in 1958, painted it British Racing Green, added his touches (like that famous locking glovebox by Von Dutch), and drove it hard enough to flirt with losing his license multiple times. He even sold it once in 1969… then tracked it down and bought it back years later because nothing else quite matched the thrill.

Today, the car resides at the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA, preserved with McQueen’s sunglasses on the dash - ready for the King of Cool to jump back in.

Some things never lose their edge. This photo is timeless proof that true cool doesn’t fade.
